Ellis South End Neighborhood Association

BEAUTIFY YOUR SIDEWALK AND SAVE A TREE!

The Ellis South End Neighborhood Association is renewing our efforts to protect our valuable tree canopy by offering residents and local businesses the opportunity to sponsor a tree fence.  Tree fences may be requested for any street tree location in the Ellis neighborhood that does not already have a fence. In some locations, fences cannot be installed due to narrow streets or sidewalks.

Tree fences are historically appropriate, comprised of cement footings and black painted ironwork, installed by a reputable ironworks vendor with long experience in the South End. The fences are 4-sided metal with one removable side for easy access and will be custom-fitted to the tree area where requested. A custom acknowledgement sign (6” x 6”) will be attached to the side of the fence.

The City of Boston is responsible for street tree placement and removal. Installation of each tree fence will be approved and coordinated by members of the Ellis Board of Directors. Neither the City nor Ellis South End Neighborhood Association will be responsible for ongoing maintenance of the fences. Support for this tree fence program has been very strong in years past. We look forward to your support this year to further beautify our streets, sidewalks, and trees.
